SANFORD, Fla. - The Winter Park Freedom scored a go-ahead run in the seventh inning on Friday afternoon, defeating the DeLand Angels in the Futures League Championship Game, 3-2. Casey Wright threw a complete game for the Freedom, allowing just two runs.

DeLand jumped on top first as Andre Walden led off the game with a double. He later advanced to third on a stolen base and scored on an error by Winter Park’s catcher for the first run of the game.

A reciprocating error cost the Angels in the second as a misplayed ball by their first basemen allowed Kyle Norman to score to tie the game 1-1.

The next three innings were quiet as both teams were able to put runners on, but neither of them could capitalize and take the lead. Winter Park threatened in the bottom of the fifth, loading the bases, but Andrew Catone was able to escape the jam unscathed.

After the Angels scored a run in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly, the Freedom made sure to respond. Norman came through with a one-out single and came around to score one batter later as Luke Baxter doubled to tie the game once again, 2-2.

With Wright still on and throwing magnificently, Jordan Hicks came up huge for Winter Park in the seventh. Following back-to-back walks to Eric Schulte and James McGhee, Zachary Spina was able to retire Jonnie Benniefield for the second out of the inning.

Hicks singled to score Schulte, which proved to be the game-winning run.

Wright retired the Angels in order in the eighth and ninth, sealing the championship victory for the Freedom.

Winter Park managed only three hits in the game, but took advantage of three DeLand errors.

Chris Clayton went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Angels, in the loss.
