DeLand visited Leesburg on Thursday night to kick off play for the weekend. Daniel Acevedo gave the Angels an early 1-0 lead on a RBI double in the 1st. Acevedo’s hot day continued in the 3rd when he knocked in another run for the Angels on a single. Leesburg got one back in the 3rd on a Demetree Jest RBI single, then later tying it up in the 4th on a SAC fly from Blake Carroll. Both offenses were quiet until the 9th inning until DeLand’s Dexter Martin launched a 2-RBI home run to give the Angels a 4-2 lead, which turned out to be the winning score as they were able to hold off Leesburg in the 9th. Ryan Gusto was solid in his 6 innings, striking out 8 batters and allowing 2 earned runs. Brady Bibbs was credited for the win.

Leesburg had a quick turn around on Friday from their loss against DeLand, as they were paid a visit from the red-hot Winter Park Freedom. Winter Park blew the game open in the 3rd inning scoring a total of 8 runs. Colson, Scheitzach, Levin, and Martinez all scored on pass balls. Martinez (2), Webb, and Nunez all had RBI’s in the inning. The Freedom tacked on 5 more runs in the 5th inning which ultimately led to a run-rule win with the game ending in 7 innings. Michael Glenn was fantastic on the mound for the Freedom, striking out 7 batters and giving up just 4 hits in 6 innings of work.

Winter Park was at it again on Saturday, extending their winning streak to 4 games with a 4-1 win over the DeLand Angels. All 4 Freedom runs were scored in the 2nd inning. Connor Scheitzach and Rody Webb both scored on passed balls from DeLand. Quinton Martinez and Tyler Colson both had RBI’s to score the other two runs for the Freedom. DeLand got one back in the 5th, but it wasn’t enough as they were held off in the 7th by Will Saxton who picked up the save. Quinton Martinez threw 5 innings, allowing just 5 hits, picking up his 2nd win on the year.
