Thunder Long Balls Doom the Boom

An impressive ten hit performance by Leesburg led to a win against Lake Mary. After a single and walk to start the game, the Thunder hit back-to-back home runs by Cameron Broughton (Shawnee State) and Jake Blair (Sante Fe) scoring four runs early. The Boom quickly answered when Rody Webb (Florida Southern) hit a single to score two runs in the inning. The Boom took the lead in the bottom of the second with a grand slam by Jake Allen (West Virginia Tech).  This didn’t stop the Thunder, as Dylan Adams (Florida Southern) hit an RBI double to make the score 6-5. Broughton, already having an awesome day, scored Adams on a sac fly to tie the game. In the fourth, the Thunder again hit back-to-back homeruns from Alexis Quevedo (Talladega) and George Duran (Shawnee State). The last bit of hitting came from Blair he hit a two RBI single to make the game 10-7. With the victory, the Thunder move to 7-4 on the season.

Sanford Continues Hot Streak

A balanced attack, both on the mound and at the plate, led to the Monarchs six straight victory as they defeated the Boom on Saturday. Sanford got out to an early lead in the top of the first, scoring four runs on a two-RBI single by Michael Ballard (Eckerd), and RBI groundout by Reid Lisle (Undecided), and run scoring walk by Xavier Rosado (Stetson). Andrew Petit (Pasco-Hernando) was lights out on the bump for the Monarchs, going five innings, while giving up no runs on only three hits.  After a shaky first inning, Jefferson Casillas (Montgomery) and Matt Wheeler (Bryant Stratton) were able to shut down the Monarchs strong offense for the middle innings. Sanford was able to put three more runs on the board in the sixth inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Brock Berry, to bring the score to 7-0. The next inning, the Monarchs continued to pile on, scoring five more runs on, led by Drake Rodriquez’s (St. Petersburg) single with the bases loaded, giving him two more RBI’s on the day. In the last inning of this shortened, seven-inning game, Lake Mary was able to put up one run from an RBI single from Casillas, but it was too late as Sanford cruised to the 12-1 victory. Pettit lowered his ERA to a miniscule 1.29, as he notched his league-leading forth win. Sanford will put their win streak to the test when they take on Leesburg on Tuesday, while Lake Mary while try to turn their season around against the Thunder a day later.
