Leesburg Tops Winter Park in Instant Classic

It only took one day for us to get the first walk-off of the season, courtesy of Reese Collins and the Leesburg Thunder.

Winter Park got out to an early lead thanks to the efforts of Noah White, as he blasted a leadoff homerun in the 5th inning to make it a 3-1 ballgame. That lead was then extended in the 7th, when freshman Mason Wilson launched a 2-run home run to left-center, giving the Bulldogs firm control at 5-1.

To start the bottom of the 8th, the Thunder worked back-to-back walks that both scored- making it a 5-3 game. The comeback had just begun, as Maurey Gonzalez Rodriguez led off the 9th with a single up the middle. Winter Garden's pitching struggled greatly, as they proceeded to walk the bases loaded, and then allow two runs via hit-by pitch.

Bottom of the 9th, tied at 5, Reese Collins then stepped to the plate and won it for the thunder on a sac fly to right field! Battling back from a 4 run deficit, the Thunder hope this victory will set the tone for the rest of their season.

Both teams will be in action again on Wednesday.
