The Hammers registered 12 hits en-route to their 10-8 victory on Wednesday.
Sam Putt got things rolling for Winter Park with a leadoff single in the 3rd inning. The bulldogs then strung together a collection of hits and walks to score 3 in the third. They capitalized on some defensive errors in the top of the 5th, tacking on three more to make it a 7-2 ballgame.
It all changed for DeLand in the bottom of the 5th, when Jefferson Castillas knocked in two runs on a double to left-center. Jax Banco followed that with a two-RBI single to make it a 7-6 game. DeLand finally took the lead in the late innings, capitalizing on pitching woes and defensive miscues to pull out the win, 10-8.
Gunnar Harrison was lights-out for DeLand out of the bullpen. The right-handed sophomore allowed no earned runs in his 3 innings of work, striking out 4.
DeLand improves to 3-1-1, and Winter Park falls to 1-3. Both will be back in action this Saturday.
