Sanford gets the best of Winter Park

Sanford defeated Winter Park on Monday, 3-1 behind the right arm of freshman Trent Caples. The Eagle out of Embry-Riddle was phenomenal in his second start of the year. Caples went 5 innings and gave up no runs, while striking out 6. Sanford will look to build on his start as a staff moving forward - as the Monarchs currently rank last in the league in team WHIP. Anthony Kost turned in a solid start for Winter Park, giving up just 2 in his four innings.

The Sanford offense was less than stellar, but very opportunistic. Though only logging 4 hits in the game, the Monarchs managed 3 runs. Canyon Brown led the way, going 1-1 and driving a run in the first inning.

All of the offensive production for Winter Park came from the middle of their lineup. The 3 through 6 hitters combined for all 6 of the Bulldogs’ hits. David Parker and Noah White each laced multiple hits.

Sanford will host Leesburg on Wednesday afternoon, while Winter Park will visit Winter Garden in the oldest rivalry in the league.
