Monarchs win thanks to early surge

Sanford defeated Lake Mary on Monday by a score of 7-3. The victory by Sanford put an end to the Boom’s league-high 6 game winning streak.

Offensively, the Monarchs capitalized on Lake Mary’s mishaps early. They were able to work 9 walks in the game total, while also reaching on 4 Boom errors. Donnie Little displayed this perfectly, with a single in the 4th driving in two runs. Parker Laffrey was efficient at the plate, going 1-1 with 2 walks, scoring twice. For the Boom, it should come as no surprise that Jake French was a leader once again. The outfielder collected two hits on the day, bringing his average to a league-high .625.

Phillip Goepferich was stellar for Sanford. The righty out of Seminole State cruised through 6 innings, allowing just one run. His efforts earned him his first W of the year on the mound, fitting considering his 1.80 ERA through 15 innings. Donavan Kim closed the door out of the bullpen, striking out 5 in 3 innings to ensure the victory.

Sanford will look to continue the momentum on the road against DeLand, while Lake Mary will travel to Winter Garden.
