Angels Win Big Against the Tangelos

DELAND, Fla. - The DeLand Angels (5-11-1) scored five runs in the fifth to beat the Winter Garden Tangelos (3-15) in seven innings on Thursday afternoon, 12-2.

After Winter Garden scored one in the top of the first, DeLand answered with two in the bottom of the inning. Jack Layrisson reached on a single after a 4-6-3 double play cleared the bases, and he quickly made his way to third on a stolen base and a wild pitch. Another wild pitch allowed Layrisson to score to the tie the game. 

Benjamin Rowdon followed with a single, scoring Adam Rosenberg to give the Angels a 2-1 lead. They would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.

In the third, after the Tangelos scored a run to tie the game, the Angels extended their lead in the bottom half of the inning. Three walks, a hit-by-pitch, and a wild pitch, allowed DeLand the opportunity to take a 5-2 lead. 

Winter Garden starter Brooks Estrada struggled even more in the fourth, walking three and allowing two more runs as DeLand increased their lead once more to 7-2. Estrada walked nine over four innings while taking the loss. 

Lucas Spetsas went five innings for the Angels, allowing two runs on five hits. He picked up the win as DeLand scored five more in the fifth, closing things out for a win after seven innings.

Rowdon led the way for the Angels, finishing 3-for-3 with two RBI.
