Freedom Walk Off Against the Rats

WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Winter Park Freedom (11-8) scored two in the seventh to complete their come from behind walk-off victory over the Winter Springs Rats (12-7-1) on Thursday afternoon, 6-5.

Two quick singles by Wade Weinburger and Paxton Rigby gave Winter Springs an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. One batter later, Mark Watson doubled, bringing in Rigby to make it 2-0. Watson later scored on a wild pitch to increase their lead to 3-0 after one.

After a scoreless second, both teams scored two in the third as the Rats now had a 5-2 lead. 

Winter Park replicated their two runs in the third, scoring two more in the fourth to pull within 5-4. Tyler Colson and Dean Niarchos each picked up an RBI in the inning. 

Fast forward to the seventh, Anthony Tejeda reached on an error to begin the inning. Niarchos followed, striking out. On the strikeout, Tejeda attempted to steal second and was thrown out for out number two. 

Down to their final out, Daniel Baxter earned a walk to keep things alive. He advanced to second on a pass ball and then to third on a wild pitch, putting the tying run just 90 feet away. Eric Schulte followed with a walk of his own and Baxter scored on an error by the catcher, tying the game. 

James McGhee followed, doubling off of Andrew Smith to score the game winning run for Winter Park.

Luke Brown picked up the win for the Freedom, throwing four shutout innings allowing just two hits.

Jonnie Benniefield led the way for Winter Park with two RBI.
