SANFORD, Fla. - Jesse Coates threw a complete game shutout as the Winter Springs Rats (13-7-1) handled the Sanford Monarchs (10-8-2) on Saturday afternoon, 6-0.

Winter Springs didn’t need a plethora of hits as their starter, Jesse Coates, allowed just three hits over seven innings. He struck out four in the complete game win.

After scoring one in the first, Coates did get help in the third and fourth as the Rats scored two in both innings. Paxton Rigby picked up a two-RBI single in the third and an error and a pass ball in the fourth allowed Winter Springs to extend their lead to 5-0.

Austin Manuel had a rough outing for Sanford, allowing six runs on six hits in five innings of work. He took the loss.

Wade Weinburger led the way for the Rats, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.
