Angels Win 5-0, Advance to 2nd Round

SANFORD, Fla. - The DeLand Angels jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and never looked back on Wednesday afternoon, beating the Sanford Monarchs by a final score of 13-3.

Behind 15 hits, the Angels came into Sanford and beat the Monarchs on their home field, eliminating them from the Futures League playoffs.

In the second, Thirus Jones, Garrett Capman, Kevin Moore, and Andre Walden each picked up RBI hits. They roughed Matthew Buckalew up to the tune of five runs on six hits in the inning.

After the Angels scored two more in the fifth, the Monarchs responded with two of their own in the bottom of the inning, scoring their first runs of the game.

Austin Manuel and Charlie Barebo each recorded RBI singles, cutting the DeLand lead to 7-2.

The Angels scored a run in every inning the rest of the way, cruising to the win.

Robert Goodwin helped set the tone for DeLand, throwing seven innings of two-run ball. 

Eight of the nine starters recorded a hit, with Kevin Moore leading the way at the plate — finishing 3-for-4 with two RBI.
