Sanford started the 2nd week of Futures play with a close 9-8 victory over Winter Garden. Brady Barnett and Adrian Delgado led the way for the Monarchs, knocking in six of their nine runs. Jonnie Bennefield III had a strong 4 RBI-day for Winter Garden, but it wasn’t enough in the end. Sanford relievers Jake Carpenter and Michael Mcardle combined for 3 innings of shutout baseball. Carpenter received his first win of the season, as Mcardle picked up the save.

DeLand and Leesburg clashed for a pitchers duel on Monday night, where both starters went 5+ innings giving up 0 earned runs (Brightman-DEL, Woodard-LEES). The defense didn’t help either team, as DeLand had 4 errors, and Leesburg with 3. Xavier Rodriguez was the difference in the end for Leesburg, coming up clutch in the 11th inning with a walk off RBI-double. Rodriguez also picked up the win for the Thunder.

On Tuesday, Winter Park and Winter Garden were knotted up at 1 in the 7th inning, when Cameron Meehan got on base with a double, and later scored on a RBI-single form shortstop, Justin Moran. The Freedom extended their lead to 4-1 in the 8th behind RBI-singles from Graham Gardner and Rody Webb. Reliever Brandon Torrence picked up the win, and William Bowden was credited for the save.

Sanford and DeLand put on an offensive show on Wednesday. The two teams combined for a whopping 30 runs. Spitulski, Delgado, and Joseph all had 3-RBI days for the Monarchs. Scott Fickas and Bobby Spitulski had homeruns for the Monarchs. Sanford scored 6 runs on 3 hits in the 7th inning, ending the game in run-rule fashion.
