Mid-Week Recap: June 26-28

Sanford kicked off the week on Monday with a huge offensive performance, giving them a 20-6 win over the Suns. Sanford piled on 8 runs in the first with 2-RBI doubles from both Christian Julius and Darius Baldwin. Four more runs came in on RBI singles from 4 different Monarchs. The Sanford bats continued with a 6-rum 3rd inning. Harrison Keslar got the scoring started with a solo shot to left, later followed by RBI singles from Baldwin and Joseph. Ryan Rennebu knocked in 2 more runs with an RBI single of his own. Winter Garden tacked on 6 runs in the last 3 innings to narrow the margin of defeat to 14 runs. Austin Manuel picked up the win for Sanford.

 

Winter Garden stole a victory on the road versus DeLand on Tuesday. DeLand had a 4-1 lead going into the 8th inning when Winter Garden put up 5 runs behind RBI’s from Jake Jarvis and Jackson Campbell (2), Johnny Corning, and Giovanni Garcia. Winter Garden blew the lead open with 5 more runs in the 9th thanks to a 2-RBI double from Jake Jarvis, followed by a bases clearing triple from second basemen Johnny Corning. Winter Garden won the game 11-7, Giovanni Garcia picked up the win for the Suns.

 

Freedom fans had a long, sad car ride home from Leesburg on Tuesday night. The Thunder came out swinging, putting on 3 runs in the 2nd behind an RBI single from Brody Rubinstein, followed by a 2-RBI double from Jayln Dorsey. Tanner Clark reached on a Winter Park error in the 3rd, and then scored on a double from Leesburg’s Spencer Taylor. Two more runs came in the 5th on runs scored by Zach West and Blake Carroll. Leesburg saw great pitching outings from Alex Smith, who got the win after throwing 5 innings, allowing just 1 earned run while striking out four. Xavier Rodriguez was impressive in 2 innings of relief, striking out 5 Freedom batters.

 

Leesburg kept the winning streak going on Wednesday against DeLand. The Thunder capitalized on spotty defense from DeLand in the 1st, 3 unearned runs were scored from Lotito, Dorsey, and Burgess.  Dorsey and Lotito continued their hot days with RBI singles in the 5th. The Thunder added 4 more runs in the 6th behind a 2-RBI single from Tanner Clark, who scored later in the inning on a DeLand error. Colby Woodard had another outstanding outing, giving up 1 run and striking out 4 batters in 7 innings.
