Sanford Monarchs (10-5)

The Sanford Monarchs played four games over this two week stretch where they tallied a record 3-1. The only loss for the Monarchs came against the Lake Mary Cudas 8-1 after the Cudas scored 8 unanswered runs after being down 1-0 going into the fifth inning. The Monarchs went on to win 3 straight games this week as they beat the Winter Park Freedom twice during this span including 1-0 in a pitching duel where Ben Berggren, Chris Ragosta and Dean Niarchos combined for a complete game shutout. The second win came against the Freedom in a 12-1 blowout where pitching and hitting was running on all cylinders for the Monarchs.  The Monarchs went on to beat the Tangelos 11-9 defeat on Monday July 9th to finish out the week. During this stretch the Monarchs have been led on the mound by Reese Lisle who has put together multiple solid outings during these past few weeks only allowing one earned run in ten innings pitched. The Monarch bats have been on fire lately especially Britt Crawford who is hitting .341 on the season with 11 RBIs and Will Phillips who is hitting .563 with 7 RBIs in his last 6 games. After these two weeks the Sanford Monarchs have moved into sole possession of first place with a 3 game lead over the Winter Park Freedom. The 11-5 Monarchs have been hot as of late as they are on a 4 game win streak and have won 9 out of their last 10 games. 

 

Winter Park Freedom (7-7)

The second place Winter Park Freedom played four games during this two week period where they struggled with a record of 1-3. In a low scoring affair against the Winter Garden Tangelos a two run fourth inning by Winter Garden was all that they needed to secure a win against the freedom. The Freedom fell just short again against the Sanford Monarchs in a 1-0 pitchers due where Saliel Rivera allowed just 2 hits in 9 innings where the only run allowed was unearned. The Winter Park bats came alive against the Lake Mary Cudas where Jonathan Santiago and Kelvin George found both had two hits to help secure a 10-0 win. The Freedom struggled the second time around agains the Monarchs as they fell 12-1. Despite the struggles Saliel Rivera had a great outing pitching a complete game only allowing 2 hits and no earned runs, including 8 no hit innings to start the game off. Jonathan Santiago and Kelvin George continue to swing the sticks as they are hitting .429 and .311 respectively.

 

Lake Mary Cudas (6-8)

Right behind the Winter Park Freedom in the standing is the Lake Mary Cudas who went 2-3 over the past two weeks. They started this stretch with a come from behind win again the first place Sanford Monarchs where they scored 8 unanswered runs to win 8-1. The Cudas followed this up with a 14-3 win against the Winter Garden Tangelos where Jeremiah Davis tallied 5 total RBIs. After the hot start for the Cudas things slowed down as they lost 3 straight games, two of which were to Winter Garden 3-0, and 3-1 as well as a loss to the Winter Park Freedom 10-0. Despite the late struggles Jeremiah Davis held a 5 game hit streak through all of this with a .385 batting average, 7 RBIs and 4 runs. Joshua Joseph shinned on the mound throwing 8 innings allowing no hits and only one earned run despite earning a loss. 

 

Winter Garden Tangelos (6-9)

The Winter Garden Tangelos round out the bottom of the standings with a record of 6-9. Despite this the Tangelos managed to go 3-2 over the past two weeks thanks to solid pitching performances in their wins. Winter Garden’s first win of the week came in a pitching duel against the Winter Park Freedom where Andrew Paraiso and Hunter Cole led them to a 2-0 victory. The Tangelos then responded to a big loss to the Lake Mary Cudas with a 3-0 win over them where Jake Janata threw 6 shutout innings to earn the win. The Tangelos tallied a 3-1 win against the Cudas where Giovanni Garcia came in to get the win in relief throwing 5 innings and striking out 5 without allowing a run. Pitching wasn’t the only thing that the Tangelos had going for them as some of their players were very effective at the plate. Julio Montes had hits in 4 out of 5 games including 2 home runs in separate games which put him in the league lead for home runs on the season.
