Leesburg beats Sanford 3-2 and Lake Mary 3-1 in close games

Sanford and Leesburg face off in first match up this season

The Monarchs visited the Thunder for the first time this season on June 8th. The game started with a pitching battle between Leesburg’s Tyler Moran (Carson Newman) and Sanford’s Andrew Pettit (Pasco-Hernando State). Moran started the game and threw well with a line of 3.2 innings, one earned run, two hits, and one walk. Pettit was equally impressive giving up zero runs on one hit with two walks. In the fourth, the Monarchs opened the inning with Cody Green (Daytona State) walking. Reece Lisle (Stetson) hit a single to move Green to third. After, Geovani Sostre (West Virgina Wesleyan) was hit by a pitch moving Lisle to second. With bases loaded Jakob Wiirre (FAMU) came in clutch hitting a single to center field to score Green. This allowed the Monarchs to take the lead. The game remained 1-0 till the bottom of the sixth when the Thunder came storming back. Dylan Adams (Florida Southern) and Cameron Broughton (Shawnee State) lead off with back to back singles; follow by a double from Tyler Smith (Piedmont College) that scored Adams. Broughton came around to score on a dropped third strike during the next at bat. Kobie Leonard (Lake Sumter) wrapped up the scoring with an RBI single allowing Smith to score making it a 3-1 game. The Monarchs attempted to come back in the last inning scoring one final run, but Leesburg’s Josh Plasencia (Lake Sumter) finished the game strong stranding a runner on second to earn the win.

Leesburg sweeps double header with win

The Leesburg Thunder stayed hot in game two beating the Lake Mary Boom. Lake Mary started strong scoring one run in the first inning. Sam Gordon (Faulkner) singled and stole second to put Lake Mary in a great position to score.  This is when Jake Allen (West Virginia Tech) earned an RBI off a single scoring Gordon. In the bottom half of the inning, Leesburg’s bats came alive. Kobie Leonard (Lake Sumter) started the inning with a single to center followed by a double by Nick Grice (Lake Sumter), allowing Leonard to score. Then Alexander Morales (Milligan College) doubled himself, switching places with Grice on the bases. Dylan Adams (Florida Southern) hit a single to left advancing Morales on the play. A perfectly executed double steal by both Adams and Morales leads to the final run of the inning being scored. Leesburg pitcher Jake Blair (Santa Fe College) threw a gem in this game, totaling 4 innings pitched, giving up one run on three hits with zero walks and four strikeouts. Leesburg moves to 2-1 on the season.
