Justice Candelario comes up big late in the game

Lake Mary Boom won another extra inning game over the Sanford Monarchs on Monday. Sanford took an early 2-1 lead after Drake Rodriguez (St. Petersburg) hit a double to score two. The game slowed down until the 4th when Xavier Rosado (Stetson) hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Jakob Wiirre (Florida A&M). The Monarchs came back up in the 5th chipping away at the Boom. After back to back walks and an advancement of both runners on a sacrifice bunt, Cody Green (Daytona State) got a job done by hitting the ball to the right side of the field, scoring Scott Reeves (Dayton State) on the play. The Boom bats finally came alive in the top of the 6th, scoring four a double and single from Preston Toothman (Gettysburg) and Jake Allen (West Virginia Tech) respectively. Lake Mary scored one more run in each of the next two innings to take a short lived 7-5 lead going into the bottom of the 8th. The Monarchs fired back with a monster 8th inning, scoring five, highlighted by a two RBI single by Brock Berry (Joliet) and two RBI double by Geovani Sostre (West Virginia Wesleyan). Then with two outs in the top of the 9th inning, Justice Candelario played the role of hero. With two runners on, the sophomore from Santa Fe slugged a game-tying, three-run homerun to send this game into extra innings. In the top of the 10th, Toothman came up with the bases loaded and mustered up another big hit, this time being a bases clearing double, bringing him to five RBI on the day. Clayton Powell (College of Central Florida) was able to slam the door in the bottom half of the inning, striking out two and giving the Boom a 13-10 victory in ten innings.
