The Monarchs kicked off their double header by giving up double digit runs against the Thunder. Both teams were able to put one unearned run on the board in the first inning, but the scoring didn’t stop there for the Thunder. In the top of the second inning, the Thunder’s offense erupted for seven runs, highlighted by a three-run homerun by Dylan Adams (Florida Southern) and an RBI double from Cameron Rodriguez (Lake Sumter). Leesburg’s starting pitcher, Jake Blair (Santa Fe), kept the Monarchs offense to a minimum until finally giving up a sacrifice fly to Reid Lisle (Undecided) to bring the score to 8-2. The score remained this way until the seventh inning where both offenses did some damage. In the top half of the inning, Leesburg put up two runs with an RBI single from Alexander Morales (Milligan) and a sacrifice fly from Kameron Butler (Texas College). Then in the final half inning Sanford put on their rally caps, scoring three runs, two of which came off the bat of Scott Reeves’ (Daytona State) double unitil Neyshard Armstrong (Undecided) was able to get the final out and give the Thunder a 10-5 victory.
Sanford’s Luke Babineau (Undecided) and Jackson Eberly (Ave Maria) combine to shut out the Boom in game two of the Monarch’s double header. Sanford got on the board early by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first with an RBI double and single from Xavier Rosado (Stetson) and Reid Lisle respectively, which turned out to be all the Monarch’s would need. Babineau turned in a fantastic start, going five innings while only giving up three hits and striking out four. Then it was Eberly’s turn to get in on the action, pitching the final two innings while only giving up a hit and walk. The Monarch’s put up some insurance runs, one in the fifth and one in the sixth, including an RBI single from Robert Post (Embry-Riddle), helping Sanford cruise to a 4-0 victory and avoid the sweep on the day.
