First Game of Doubleheader Consisted of Two Complete Games 

This past Saturday, Sanford’s pitcher Edgar Alvarez (Seminole State) and Leesburg’s pitcher Josh Plasencia (Undecided) both threw complete games in the best battle we've seen all season. Alvarez ended up winning the game throwing seven innings with two hits and four strikeouts while giving up zero runs and zero walks. His counterpart allowed two runs on one hit with three walks and four strikeouts. The offense in this game was no where to be found as the only runs scored were unearned. Sanford finally caught a break in the game when an error by the first baseman allowed Robert Post (Embry-Riddle) to reach first safely. A walk was drawn by the next batter, Drake Rodriguez (St. Petersburg), to put a runner in scoring position. This is when Xavier Rosado (Stetson) hit into a fielder’s choice advancing Post to third, which finally led to a sacrifice fly by Reid Lisle (Undecided) to score the first run of the game. Scott Reeves then came up big, hitting an RBI single to give Alvarez a 2-0 cushion going into final inning. Alvarez shut down the Thunder to improve the Monarch's record to 10-5 on the season.

Boom Seek Revenge against Monarch’s

The Lake Mary Boom faced off against the Sanford Monarch’s in the second game of the doubleheader. Conor Frank (Undecided) pitched lights out throwing four and two-thirds innings only giving up one run on four hits, three walks and six strikeouts. The Boom shut down the Monarchs in five innings, after a ten run rule, breaking Sanford’s nine game win streak. Sanford scored their one and only run in the bottom of the first. In this contest, the bats all around laid dormant till the top of the fourth when Justice Candelario (Santa Fe) advanced to first on an error by the shortstop. Rody Webb (Florida Southern) and Jefferson Casillas then followed with back to back singles to score Candelario making the score 1-1. Lake Mary followed the next inning with an eleven run fifth. The Monarch’s had a lot of trouble finding the zone, walking seven batters in the inning. This paired with hits from Edrik Mader (Methodist), Michael Sutherland (West Virginia Wesleyan) and Webb, allowed for the Boom to finish the game early and improve their record to 6-10 on the season.
