Micallef, Hunnel, spark 2-out rally

Leesburg defeated Winter Garden 4-3 on Wednesday thanks to a 4-run 6th inning.

The Warthogs jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the game, with Tyler Hopkins and Ty Greene both scoring in the third. Greene was busy at the plate all day, going 2-3 with a double. The Lightning offense was rendered useless through five innings due to the efforts of Clayton Boroski and Brighton Taylor. The pair of RHP’s were stellar, as they combined to give up no runs and sit-down 8 in their five innings.

Leesburg scored all their runs in the top of the 6th with two outs. Frank Micallef got the party started with an opposite field double. The bases became loaded thanks to a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Then, Jaden Hunnel came up clutch, clearing the bases on a 3-RBI double to tie the game - later scoring via wild pitch to take the lead.

Leesburg’s victory was much needed, ending a 3-game skid. They are back in action on Saturday as they visit Winter Park. The Winter Garden loss is their first of the year, falling to 2-1-1.
