DeLand wins fourth straight

DeLand cruised to their 4th straight victory on Monday, topping Winter Garden 11-3 in 5 innings. The run rule victory is nothing new to the Hammers, as this was their fourth of the sort this year.

Four different Hammers collected multiple hits in the game, and not surprisingly Jax Banco was among that group. The sophomore’s two hit day extended his hitting streak to five games, each of which he has an RBI as well. He is now the team’s leader with a .533 average through seven games. Dalton Robinson had a big day at the plate as well, going 2-2 with a 3-run bomb in the sixth inning.

On the mound, it was more of the same for DeLand as their pitch-by-committee approach held Winter Garden to 3 runs on 4 hits. The Hammer's team ERA of 3.45 is best in the league. Gunnar Harrison and Brandon Garland came in out of the bullpen and combined for 4 shutdown innings.

Nik Mezzanotte had a productive day at the plate or the bulldogs, reaching base all 3 plate appearances and driving in a run.

DeLand now looks toward a big matchup with Lake Mary on Thursday, as the winner will take sole possession of first place in the league. Winter Garden will attempt to bounce back as they host the Bulldogs on Wednesday.
