Lake Mary even with DeLand atop league standings

Lake Mary held off a furious rally by Leesburg to win Monday’s matchup 9-7. The Boom came out of the gates hot, scoring 4 runs in the third inning thanks to RBI singles by Kyle Jackson and Ryan Kurth. The single was just the beginning for Jackson, as he turned in a 4-5 day at the plate. Jake French then capped off the inning with an RBI double, elevating his batting average to a team best .667. Meanwhile, Sebastian Miller got the start and rendered Leesburg useless in his 5 innings of work. The lefty out of Palm Beach State allowed just two hits and struck out 4 en-route to his second victory of the year.

The Thunder did battle back to make the game interesting late. Trenton Bullen stepped into the box with the bases loaded in the 7th and laced a 3-RBI double to right. They tacked on 4 more in the bottom of the ninth as well, before falling by a final score of 9-7.

The win for Lake Mary sets up a huge matchup with DeLand on Wednesday afternoon. Both teams just have one loss to their resume, and the victor will be in sole possession of 1st place in the league standings.
