Winter Garden Tangelos @ Sanford Monarchs (4-0 SAN)
To start of play for the week the Sanford Monarchs (2-4) hosted the Winter Garden Tangelos (2-4) on a beautiful Monday morning. A dominate pitching performance by the Monarchs led to a 4-0 shutout win against the Tangelos. A leadoff walk in the bottom of the second led to the first run of the game and a lead for the Monarchs that they would not let go. The Monarchs manufactured a run in the fourth inning off a Zack Johnson (Robert Morris University) single and stolen base to start off the inning. A Matt Levenson (Winthrop University) single in the fifth inning drove in two runs to cap the scoring for the game. Ben Berggren (Bethune Cookman) earns the win in todays start, while Gabriel Servi and Ethan Garrido came in for relief to finish the game out. Together they held the Tangelos to 2 hits and struck out 8 throughout the game.
Winter Park Freedom @ Lake Mary Cudas (5-4 WP)
The Winter Park Freedom (4-2) travel to Lake Mary Prep to play the Cudas (4-2) to start off play for both teams this week. The scoring for a back and forth game started with Lake Mary putting up a run on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the first. The Freedom tied it back up in the top of the second after Jonathan Santiago (Nyack College) scored on an error after reaching base on a lead off double. The Freedom scored two more runs in the top of the third as Wade Cuda (Stetson University) and Santiago had back to back RBI singles to make the score 3-1. The Cudas tied things up in the bottom of the fifth after 3 walks and an error led to Alexis Quevedo (Talladega College) and Alex Willis (Eastern Florida State) scoring. Lake Mary pushed across another run to take the lead in the sixth inning. In the top of the eighth Migdiel Burgos (William Penn University) scored after reaching base on a lead off walk to tie things up. The winning run was later pushed across as Kelvin George (Trinity Baptist College) scored on a past ball to give the Freedom a 5-4 lead that they would not let go. Despite the loss Jaylen Young (Pensacola State College) went 2-4 for the Cudas. Jonathan Santiago continues to stay hot at the plate going 2-4 with a double and an RBI for the Freedom.
Winter Park Freedom @ Sanford Monarchs (8-7 SAN)
The first place Winter Park Freedom (5-2) faced off against the Sanford Monarchs (3-4) at Sanford Memorial Stadium. Sanford had jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the fifth inning, thanks to Bobby Spitulski (Troy University) who drove in runs on a single and a sacrifice fly, as well as Connor Andrews (Lake Sumter State College) who had a 2 run RBI double in the bottom of the fifth. The Freedom finally responded to the Monarchs offensive surge with 2 runs of their own in the sixth inning where Kelvin George (Trinity Baptist College) drove in a run and eventually scored himself off a double. The Monarchs came right back in the bottom of the frame and put up 2 more runs coming from an Eldridge Figueroa (University of Arkansas Little Rock) 2 run home run. A back and forth scoring affair led to Sanford holding a 7-4 led going into the ninth inning. Down 3 runs, with two outs Nick Sala (Ohio Wesleyan University) delivered a bases clearing 3 RBI triple to tie the ball game up. In the bottom of the frame the Monarchs scraped together 3 straight base runners coming off a error, single, and hit by pitch. This led to Dean Niarchos, with the game on the line to come up to the plate and deliver the game winning, walk off, clutch, hit by pitch. This win for the Monarchs extends their win streak to 3 games and brings them to a 500 record. Chris Ragosta threw a gem for the Monarchs, going 5 innings, striking out 8, and not allowing a hit in the start.
Winter Garden Tangelos @ Lake Mary Cudas (3-1 WG)
The Winter Garden Tangelos (2-5) took on the Lake Mary Cudas (4-3) at Lake Mary Prep. The Tangelos offense put up two quick runs in the first inning against the Cudas, who have been the Future’s League best pitching staff so far. A Hunter Cole (Berry College) and a Jonathon Montes (Inspiration Academy Post Grad) single put two early runners on. Luke Henson (Lenoir-Rhyne University) then drove these two in with a two out RBI single to give the Tangelos the 2-0 lead in the first inning. Lake Mary responded in the bottom of the second with a run coming off a Jermiah Davis (FSJC) RBI double. This was the lone run for the Cudas as the Tangelo pitching staff did a fantastic job today. Collin McMahon and Luke Henson lead the Tangelos offense going 2-3 on the day. While the combination of Jake Janata, Hunter Cole and Julio Montes (Asa College) held Lake Mary to 4 hits and 1 run through 7 innings. The loss for the Cudas puts them on a three game losing streak.
