Futures League All Star Game Recap
The brightest stars of the Futures League came together to compete in the Futures League All Star Game at Bishop Moore High School. The Sanford Monarchs and the Lake Mary Cudas represented the North All Star Team, while the South All Star Team was comprised of all stars from the Winter Garden Tangelos and the Winter Park Freedom. The South jumped out to an early 4-0 lead through two innings. The scoring started off in the first inning where Kelvin George (Trinity Baptist) started the game with a lead off walk and proceeded to steal two consecutive bases. After Wade Cuda (Stetson) drew a walk, Julio Montes (Inspiration Academy) drove in Kelvin George and Cuda after a throwing error from the North. The South proceeded to put up two more runs in the second inning as Paul Benitez (Indian River State College) launches a two run home run over the left field fence. The pitching for the South was dominate in the first two innings as Saliel Rivera (Alabama State) faced the minimum thanks to double plays in both innings. The North responded with a home run of their own in the bottom of the third inning coming off the bat of Jeremiah Davis (Florida State College of Jacksonville). The south pushed across a lone run in the fourth inning after Wade Cuda scored on an error after hitting a double to lead off the inning. Both teams pushed across one run in the sixth inning to to bring the score to 6-3 as the South continue to hold the lead. A Britt Crawford (West Florida) lead off home run in the seventh inning cut the North teams deficit to 2 runs. Jonathan Santiago (Nyack) drove in two more in the bottom of the ninth where the South scored 3 runs. The final score of the game was 9-4 with the South coming out on top.
